These are the final designs of our AS media project. The reason for little gaps in-between the contents and the DPS is due to the indent that is created by the magazines structure, in which we haven't put anything that is relatively important to the magazine in this part.
Front Cover
Our name, LYRIC, was decided by us as it is something that is listened to when a song is being played at an event or in your headphones. It is also a sharp name, as it is short and different when compared to others within our genre of music.
The front cover is the page that will be seen on the shelf of a shop or online on our website. We have therefore gone for the powerful colour of yellow, as this will stand out compared to other magazines. The yellow also symbolises danger, which is what we want to represent our artist as it makes her seem as if she is a threat to other artists in the industry. The yellow text is used to match this and maintain a house style, which we have then kept throughout our magazine.
As the front cover is what will be seen first, we have decided to use lures as a way of enticing readers to delve into our magazine and read what is inside it. The lure at the top gives our audience a clear oversight into what is involved in our magazine, making them hopefully want to read about these topics. We have also got a circle lure next to our artist, which stands out on the page and gives a clear opportunity to the reader to go and see Big E, another artist that we have made. This entices the reader and gives us greater connection to our audience.
Other features in the article are on the left hand side of the magazine, which includes the name of artists that are currently big in the hip-hop/R&B industry, making people want to read about them as well as just telling the audience other features within our product.
The main feature however is the girl who takes up the front cover and some of the masthead, to show that she is an impactful artist on todays music industry. We have used photoshop to alter the brightness and contrast to make her stand out, as well as adding a drop shadow. The name of the artist is also the biggest headline on the page, with a little tagline that will be remembered by the audience who will now associate the slogan with her. We are therefore advertising her, giving her more recognition by getting the audience to listen to her music or go to her performances. The colour of "girl power" matches her lipstick, which we have used as a colour to represent her that will be put onto our double page spread.
The barcode is in the bottom corner of the magazine, which conforms to what is normally seen in magazine covers, as they are located in a position that is easily accessible to scan. It also makes it look more professional, as we can now compete with real music magazines. The price is also displayed above it, so the audience will know how much it is. We chose this price as it will be able to give us revenue of which we will be able to compete with other magazines, as we can now get greater features and broaden our brand.
Back Cover
A contents page is made to be informative, so that the audience knows where pages are in the magazine and what they will entail. It is also going to be stylish so that we can maintain a polished/sharp style that represents the urban music we want to use. We have included pictures to represent certain articles within our magazine that are the main features.
The articles are presented clearly, in which the artists/topics name is above the information about the article. This information is a caption to tell the audience what the article entails, so that they can read if they are interested. Our main topics are presented in similar fashion, but are in a bigger font to make them seem more prominent on the page. The LYRIC EXCLUSIVE heading makes the competition being presented by our article better, as it will only be seen in our magazine making our magazine popular because of the prizes that will be won.
The contents title is in a modern style, in which the 'con' is above the 'tents'. This idea was inspired by the way in which Vibe has presented their contents title, which makes our magazine fit well into the hip-hop/R&B magazine industry.
The colours chosen are yellow, white and black, which are colours that were used on the front cover and eventually on the double page spread. This colour scheme that has been put onto both of our firs two pages maintains a house style, presenting our brand identity to the audience clearly.
As technology increases in today's society, we have decided to try and adapt our magazine to the overgrowing use of the internet in the QR Code that has been placed in the left hand corner. This gives a link to our website, so the audience can read further into articles and check out the latest gossip about artists in the industry of our choice. We broaden our internet presence by including the name of our social media pages, so people can follow us and connect with us on giving suggestions and entering competitions that could occur on our page.
Double Page Spread
The double page spread is used to display the article and image of the chosen artist that we have decided to use. We have decided to make one whole page dedicated to a close up of the artist with a stylish effect, that represents the article. The name is also made in the colour of the lipstick and in a lipstick-style font, allowing us to present the femininity of the artist that we want to highlight in our article, as it contrasts with the male dominated industry we have chosen. This will make it stand out and attract readers.
The change in outfits was decided by us as it shows the multiple styles that our artist has, focusing on one of the main features in our magazine that is advertised on the front cover.
There is a cliche quote that relates to the words surrounding the face of our artist, as words will never hurt the artist as she will continue to make her style of music. This makes her stand out and become an idol for young females looking to pursue a career in music, promoting the image of our magazine. A little caption is also used to tell the audience what is to be spoken about in our magazine article with KITCH, making the audience want to read on.
The article is positioned in the middle of the second page, that also has a picture and quote from the article. This allows us to have other images and include a considerable amount of writing as there was a lot of space for us to use. The paragraphs features topics that are from the contents page as well as other topics like confidence and aspiration, that will hopefully inspire the younger female generation to do well in their lives.
The image and feature at the bottom advertises a performance that KITCH has made at the LYRIC HQ, which will be seen on the website of our magazine. This advertises her as well as the website, making more visitors to our website and greater support for the artist.
The border around the outside is yellow and black and is features also on our contents page. This border is also accompanied by 2 numbers, that are the pages that are highlighted on the contents page. This keeps consistency as well as our brand identity through the colours and the same font as our name.
